Tucson Economy Misleading
Star Rating - 1/2/2017
I for the most part agree with James about Tucson's state of health. If it were not for the UofA, Raytheon, Hospitals and Davis Monthan AFB, Tucson would be a dust spot along the road. Also, don't forget about who contributes to the Tucson economy. It's the Snow Birds and the Sonorans. The snow birds shop and eat here during their stay. The Sonorans come here and shop too. It amazes me how many washers and dryers are loaded up in pickup trucks headed south. The stuff is made in Mexico, but I guess they can not buy it there. Tuscon is bustling with Sonoran license plates around the Thanksgiving to Christmas time. The new outlet mall off of Twin Peaks is 99% Sonoran around this time of year. And 99% of the shoppers have lots of shopping bags in their hands. Same goes for the Nordstum Outlets, Sonoran. This means sales taxes were collected. Personally, I think we should have a tax free day for any snow bird and Sonoran to thank them for contributing to Tucson's economy.

As far as the rest of Tucson, yes it is a very poor town. Every street corner has a beggar on it. Homeless camps in the desert. Homeless on the downtown streets. You can not enjoy yourself on 4th street because of them and their cigarett smoke. Just observe around town the people who are out. They all look like tatooed tramps. It's like the whole town of Tucson looks like "Walmartians" or the people of Walmart. To see the "pretty" people, you have to go to the UofA campus. And yes, the UofA campus is an island. The college kids do not venture off campus. No need to. Do you ever see new cars around Tucson? Most people are driving old beaters. I'm beginning to think most people in Tucson aspire to drive a 1950's faded and battered up pickup truck. The new cars are at Raytheon and TMC. Lets talk about the condition of license plates on the cars her. Most are the standard issue AZ plate. But the plate numbers are unreadable because the sun faded them. Most are still the old raised lettering and have the clear coat peeling off. Folks the state of AZ lets you have a new license plate every year if you want when you register your car. Lets do it!

Not sure what James has against people who live in the Foothills. I live there, and yes its a nice place to live. I used to travel to Tucson from the LA area for business. I pretty much hung around the airport area. Occasionally, came up to the La Spendalata mall to eat at Firebirds. Exceeded my per diem. But always ate there when it was dark. It was not until I moved permanently to Tucson that I learned how beautiful the mountains are in the Foothills. Didn't realize that the cacti grew all the way up to the tops of the mountains. And yes, the road up here are broken too. We get no special privileges here. Oh, and not all the homes up here are beautiful. Some are from the 1950's and look like it. Bulldoze them. But if you do, the county makes you keep at least one original wall. How stupid. That proves the Tucson area is backwards. Nothing like living in a newly constucted home with up to date building codes. High ceilings and a gabled roof. Not sure why builders make flat roofs. Because they are cheap! My tiled roof does not leak and never have to coat it.

Lets talk air quality in Tucson. In the summer and winter, I leave the Foothills and drive down Swan. Oh my, the sky is brown. Smog. Yes, Tucson has bad air quality. Not sure who measures the air quality here. But they disguised it as Pima County. Which means the real air quality in the city of Tucson is skewed. Misleading. The air here is bad. Also, what is this black soot the I find on my car daily and inside my home. There is this constant dirt in the air here. What is the percentage of people here with asthma and lung cancer?

Lets talk Tucson traffic. Everyone complains about the traffic here. Why? Well lets start with the dumb lagging Left turn arrow. No other city in the US has this. Then throw in the Michigan Left turn. Again stupid. Oh what about those traffic circles. Everytime I round the one by South Costco, I come close to having an accident. No one yeilds to the car rounding the circle. They just expect you to yeild. Again stupid. As my friend Jeff Robinson in Raytown says, "Remember the smartest guy in your High School class? Well the dumbest one is designing all the roads and traffic signals". Whoever heard of reversed angled parking. Idiots. Why not just make the left turn arrow longer. The lady who heads the Transportation Dept for Tucson is a Community College grad. What, just an Associates degree. Probably in underwater basket weaving. She knows nothing about transportation. The county assessor is a college drop out. Actually this brings up that the traffic lights here could be smart. I know they are smart during off hours. Because at mid-night when I pull up to the light and there is no cross traffic, the light immediately turns GREEN. But during the day, the signals have been set to a timer. And the timed light invokes the cross-left turn signal and no one there. Why do I have to sit at the light burning fuel waiting when there is no cross traffic? Again, stupid. Another example of stupidity are the trees planted in the two way left turn lane on Campbell. WTF. Campbell is narrow as it is. One evening in heavy traffic with cars all along both sides of Campbell, an ambulance tried to drive down Campbell in an emergency. He had now where to go. There is no shoulder on Campbell for the cars to pull out of the way. The ambulance could not drive down the middle two way left turn lane due to the dumb trees being planted there. Hope this message makes its way to the idiot who's idea it was to install those trees.
